KAMPALA (Reuters) - Uganda's junior finance minister became on Monday charged with corruption offences stemming from a scandal about alleged diversion of govt-owned roofing substances that has ensnared multiple officials.
Police investigators and prosecutors in the east African country were searching into the alleged theft and diversion of metal roofing sheets meant for a reduction application within the restive northeastern Karamoja area bordering Kenya and South Sudan and home to pastoral nomads.
Amos Lugoloobi, who has been in custody in view that Friday, changed into charged with "dealing with suspect property" in a courtroom in the capital Kampala.
He pleaded now not guilty and changed into remanded except Thursday when he'll reappear in court docket for a ruling on his utility to be released on bail.
Lugoloobi was the second minister to be charged. Police say they are processing the information of several other officials together with ministers who are facing potential fees.
